This Red Goose Shoes nodder looks very nice, is in mint condition, and is a novelty in the advertising bobbin head section. There are several shoe companies that had a nodder made for them. This one came out in 1962 and is quite popular with collectors. I think the brightly colored Poll Parrot is my favorite of all the shoe companies, but this one is a close second. Red Goose stands over 6 inches tall and is a fascinating and colorful advertising piece. The advertising nodders are growing rapidly in popularity. This listing is for the Smoky the Bear Nodder. He was made in 1962, is part of the “Advertising” Bobbin Head set and stands 6 inches tall. Smokey the Bear first appeared in a Ad campaign on August 9th 1944 to prevent forest fires. A real bear cub was rescued after a fire in New Mexico and named Smokey by the fire fighters that rescued him. He lived out his life in the National Zoo in Washington DC and died in 1976. So when we started collecting Mid Century design in 2003 we already had all the tools needed for restoration- repair and refinishing experience, pro spraying equipment/tools, hot steam extractors, cleaners, odor removal treatments etc. We use all pro grade materials like M. Campbell, Mohawk and top shelf tung oil for wood. We use R-M Diamont and Dupont auto finishes for metal and fiberglass. We refinish to the original specs of each piece. For example, if a piece was sprayed with a lacquer gloss finish or a hand rubbed tung oil finish that is how we do it. When we refinish we maintain the original integrity of the finish as the creator/designer would have intended it to be when it came off the shrowroom floor. If a piece is in excellent vintage condition we leave it alone. What we don’t do we send out to our specialists- upholstery, caning/rattan, metal work/welding, specialty wood repair/cabinetry.
