The New York Highlanders, now known as the New York Yankees, have been one of Major League Baseball’s most successful franchises since their inception in 1903. The team was initially called the Highlanders. It wasn’t until 1913 that they officially changed their name to the Yankees. The original home field for what would become known as “the Bronx Bombers” was Hilltop Park (now Coogan’s Bluff). This stadium sat atop a rise overlooking Harlem River and Washington Heights on Manhattan Island – two areas that were then referred to collectively as Highland. It seemed only natural for fans and sportswriters to refer to these new baseball players by this geographic designation: The New York Highlanders. Ack then, it made perfect sense given how much importance people placed on local pride at every level of society – including sports teams. Over time though, things began changing; first, with uniforms being replaced by pinstripes in 1915, followed shortly after that by management deciding they wanted something more powerful sounding than just “Highlander” when referring publicly to their ballclub. They settled upon Yankee instead – thus ushering out one era while beginning another rich chapter in MLB lore! Vintage 60’s Blinky Eyed New York Highlanders Baseball Bobblehead Nodder Custom. Stands 6tall and made of paper mache’. This little guy has been hand painted and customized from a blinky eyed 60’s baseball nodder to New York Highlander batter of yesteryear. He sports a gray, striped cap with matching uniform and decorated with a decal NY’ from the time period. An American League Logo decal is on top of the base along with a decal N. Highlanders on the front of the base. There is a “Japan” sticker on the bottom. The spring is strong and bobbles as it should along with his crazy eyes. The New York Yankees, one of the most storied franchises in Major League Baseball history, were founded in 1901 as the Baltimore Orioles. In 1903, the team moved to New York and became the New York Highlanders before officially changing their name to the New York Yankees in 1913. The Yankees have won a record 27 World Series championships, with their first coming in 1923. Throughout their history, the team has been home to some of the greatest players in baseball, including Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, and Derek Jeter. The Yankees have a fierce rivalry with the Boston Red Sox, known as the “Yankees-Red Sox rivalry, ” and have played in iconic stadiums such as Yankee Stadium and the current Yankee Stadium, which opened in 2009. With a rich history and passionate fan base, the New York Yankees continue to be a dominant force in Major League Baseball. Vintage Baseball 1960’s New York Yankees Wood Base Nodder Bobblehead Custom This nodder is from the 1960-61 set. A bit unusual because it is displayed on a wood Base. Most of this time period the base was made of paper mache’ like the bodies. Besides the Yankee doll the only other wood base were the Dodgers, Angels and Giants. This guy stands 6tall. He is a 1960’s wood base nodder that has had some restoration and has been customized to the Yankees team. The team logos on the chest and cap have been painted on. It has a “Japan” sticker under the base. Has a great spring that bobbles as it should. It does have two faint hairlines on the bottom back of head. All in all this displays near mint and is a nice piece of Yankee history that is a fraction of the cost of a complete original. See all photos as they are part of the description. This Bobblehead is a CUSTOM UT vintage nodder that is actually a “salesman” sample or known as the un-tucked shirt with toes up bobblehead that is in excellent condition. Someone made this into a University of Texas Longhorns football bobblehead that is in great condition.
