FABULOUS ORIGINAL 1950s VINTAGE BLACK BOBBLE HEAD GIRL CHILD FIGURINE. This charming figurine depicts a young, wide eyed, curly haired, chubby cheeked black girl sitting atop a lovely bunch of bananas. The child’s head is affixed to the body with a large spring, so the head bobbles and wobbles away beautifully. The black girls charming features have been beautifully hand painted with big blue wide eyes and large pink lips. This fabulous figure retains its original metal hoop earrings which gently sway as the head bobbles. This piece makes an equally charming display item. This piece was produced as a tourist ware souvenir for visitors to the iconic Australian destination of Surfers Paradise, with the name of the destination appearing upon the bananas to the right of the black girl. This superb piece is presented in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. There are a few exceptionally minuscule spots of wear to the ends of the banana which are noticeable only on really close examination and could easily be touched up if the new owner so choose. This is being incredibly pedantic, they really are minuscule. The bobble head spring is in excellent condition and bounces away beautifully. The original earrings are a magnificent feature and the painted features are in lovely vibrant condition. This piece has been very well cared for and presents spectacularly. This charming, characterful child, with its stylised form and romanticised features , makes a wonderfully kitsch ornamental object which would most likely be considered politically incorrect by todays standards. A most interesting and curious addition to any collection documenting the depiction of black people in history, and a fabulous authentically vintage piece for any retro styled home.
