They were made in the early sixties and the toes up version is by far the most beautiful, the cutest and also the most desirable and popular of all the football nodders. There are two varieties of this nodder. One has the typical light shirt, that we’ve come to associate with the Oilers, and the other is a dark blue shirt. I’m unaware of either being more or less scarce then the other but I do know that the light blue is far more desirable. I’ve seen both and prefer this one by far. This is also part of the infamous AFL toes up with baggy pants set, which just happens to be my favorite. It contains the Dallas Texan, my absolute favorite nodder, the Houston Oilers, Buffalo Bills, New England Patriots, Denver Broncos, Oakland Raiders, New York Titans and the San Diego Chargers. I have all but the Patriots, still searching for a nice one of them. In the set there are numerous exciting facts. The Patriots helmet has a 3 cornered hat, the Oilers has a gushing derrick, the Titans, is defunct and soon to be Jets, the Texans, soon to be Chiefs, has a beautiful decal of the state of Texas and is in fact the most beautiful of all nodders in existence. This Oiler has a slight chip underneath his head, a small hairline in the back of his head. There are also two different variations to the light blue Oiler shirt version, but neither is considered to be more or less rare. He’s still gorgeous, one of my favorites every, and to the untrained eye looks identical to the MINT one. Your family and friends won’t even see the difference, but you and I will! But this guy still looks very good and he’s 60 years old! He does not have a box. I guarantee him to be unrestored, unpainted, unrefurbished and completely 100% completely original. He has a couple of rough spots under his head but no breaks and nothing major. He’ll look really nice on you shelf or in your showcase, and he’s cheap. No offers, sorry, first hundred takes him. I gently stuffed newspaper in their heads because even then, I was indeed smarter then the average bear, and he’s actually quite intelligent, so they say. Today, I use Jumbo cotton balls instead of newspaper because I can afford it. So each and everyone of these guys turned out negative on my black light test. They look beautiful, as advertised, but when subjected to your little black light test, BOOM, there it is. Without the aid of that black light, I couldn’t tell which of my Black Faced Phillies had been restored. They are both beautiful, and shiney, and mint, and have vibrant colors. But when the black light hits it, there are your spots of color that someone painted on. And you know what? They belong to you. You may certainly fix them up, paint them up, cover up a nick, scratch, pin hole, whatever, to your own choosing and preference. Feel free to do whatever you like. But the problem now lies, if and when you should decide to sell them. Because now you have an obligation to at least share this. It works both ways. I don’t mind owning and displaying mint nodders in my personal collection that have been professionally restored, don’t mind it one little bit. But there’s a huge difference in the price. Yes the true MINT ones that have never been restored are very expensive, I don’t deny that. Keep in mind please that all price guides are nearly 20 years old also. I also have a very extensive collection of non mint ones and I’m working diligently to get them all listed, but it may take me years. Regardless, get yourself a black light please, you’ll be an expert in no time and you’ll be glad that you did. I would never ever be without mine again. They even sell blacklight flashlights.
