The Boston Red Sox are one of the most beloved teams in Major League Baseball, and they have a long history since 1901. One of the things that makes them unique is their nickname. It all started with an American newspaper editor named John I Taylor, who was also part-owner of the team at the time. He wanted to give his team a catchy name, so he came up with “Red Stockings” after seeing some red stockings worn by players on other teams during spring training games in 1907. As time passed, people began calling them “the Red Sox, ” and it stuck! Another popular theory for why they were called “Red Sox” has to do with their uniforms at the time, which featured bright red socks (hence “Sox”). This theory is supported by an article published in 1908 stating that fans had referred to Boston as the club wearing red stockings. No matter how you look at it, The Boston Red Sox have become synonymous with America’s pastime over more than 100 years since their inception. Vintage Boston Red Sox Wedge Gold Base Nodder Bobblehead RestoredThis nodder is from the Wedge Base Set that was distributed between 1970 to 1972. This was the last set made in Japan. It stands 6-1/2 tall and is made of paper mache’. The body and all the decals are original. There is a “Made in Japan” sticker on the bottom of the base. Spring is tight and bobbles as it should. The first team to play at brand-new Cheney Stadium, the Giants marked the return of Pacific Coast League baseball to Tacoma (Tacoma had a PCL entry in 1904 and half of 1905). Future Hall of Famer Juan Marichal pitched a shutout in the first Giants win at Cheney Stadium, but it was the 1961 Giants who brought the first championship to the city. Gaylord Perry, Ron Herbel, and Eddie Fisher fronted an outstanding starting rotation as the club went 97-57 under manager Red Davis. Bob Perry hit 22 home runs, and Dick Phillips won the only Most Valuable Player award claimed by a Tacoma player. The Giants continued to play in Tacoma through the 1965 season, when San Francisco Giants owner Horace Stoneham announced that he was moving his affiliate to Phoenix for 1966. But the Chicago Cubs stepped in and arranged to send their prospects to Tacoma the following year. This was the first Japan made set. The Tacoma Giants nodder is one of three Pacific Coast League minor league nodders that were included in this set of 16. (the others being Seattle and Portland). This nodder stands 6-1/2 tall. It’s made of paper mache’. The nodder has had some minor restoration on the head. Decals are all original. The sticker or stamp on the bottom of the base is missing. The spring is strong and bobbles as it should. Presents as nr mint/mint. A beautiful example of an early nodder-bobblehead. Please see all photos as they are part of the description. This listing is for a Dick Tracy, comic book detective, Nodder. He was made in the late 50s and is the sweetest one Ive ever seen. He stands over 7 inches tall and always reminds me of Tom Landry. I love this guy, hes always been one of my favorites. His colors are bright and appealing and he displays beautifully as hes just been repainted, just how I like them to be.
