Rare Vintage 1960s Rocky Taconite Bobblehead Souvenir From Minnesota. From Silver Bay, MN, on the north shore of Lake Superior, comes this scarce 1960s “Rocky Taconite” advertising bobble head. The mascot of the Silver Bay iron ore mining and steel fabricating industries, this hefty 6 tall figure is reportedly crafted from taconite stone, and weighs considerably more than your typical bobble head. Painted jet black with red and silver accents, this striking figure makes a dynamic appearance. There is wear & chips to the silver helmet & the head no longer bobbles(may have been glued in place). Affixed to the underside of the base, is a dedication to those responsible for transforming taconite into steel, reading in part Symbolic of a New Era.. The Transition of Taconite to Steel.
