The Boston Red Sox are one of the most beloved teams in Major League Baseball, and they have a long history since 1901. One of the things that makes them unique is their nickname. It all started with an American newspaper editor named John I Taylor, who was also part-owner of the team at the time. He wanted to give his team a catchy name, so he came up with “Red Stockings” after seeing some red stockings worn by players on other teams during spring training games in 1907. As time passed, people began calling them “the Red Sox, ” and it stuck! Another popular theory for why they were called “Red Sox” has to do with their uniforms at the time, which featured bright red socks (hence “Sox”). This theory is supported by an article published in 1908 stating that fans had referred to Boston as the club wearing red stockings. No matter how you look at it, The Boston Red Sox have become synonymous with America’s pastime over more than 100 years since their inception. It stands 6-1/2 tall and is made of paper mache’. The body and all the decals are original. There is a “Made in Japan” sticker on the bottom of the base. Spring is tight and bobbles as it should. It has a couple of nicks on the base decal and around the chest decal but other than that it displays in near mint condition. See photos as they are part of the description.
