Vintage Japanese Painted Kokeshi Dolls Pair Set Wooden Bobble Head Figures
Vintage Kokeshi Dolls, set of 2. “Bobble”heads – their heads are attached to the body by a some type of wooden rod – the heads rotate around 360 degrees. 2 1/4 – 2 1/2 wide at their widest points. I do not know the exact year these were made but here is what I DO know for sure. When I was growing up, we had a couple that lived next door. The woman was Japanese and they had met when the man was in the military and stationed over in Japan during the 1940’s sometime. When he got out of the military, she came back to the States with him, as did many others. She passed away several years ago but before she did, she gave these Kokeshi to my mother as they were good friends. Her husband had already passed away so she was giving some of her things away. I know she would have told my mom about them but, unfortunately, my mother has also passed away and so I don’t know what she told her about them. She may have had these as a child – or they could have been passed down to her – I simply do not know for sure. I wish I knew more!
